In the late evening hours we move into the last new moon of 2018 and it’s a big one worthy of a few moments of contemplation…
The timing couldn’t be more perfect as we step forward towards winter, invited inside to coax our own inner-flames and find the inspiration that keeps us warm even in the dark.
This moon cycle is ruled by Sagittarius and coincides with Mercury moving direct. This might mean that after weeks of travel through your inner-psyche things are beginning to make more sense. Confusion may be turning into a series of A-Ha moments and you may be feeling like something within you has transformed.
I am beginning to feel the faint flicker of inspiration come back to me, after a long mercury retrograde that followed an even longer venus retrograde. It feels like both brought me to my knees and from the tail end of it, I’m seeing how necessary it has been to question just about everything in my life.
Transformation is what moons like this are all about, and this one specifically wants you to expand into a bigger version of who, on your best days, you know you are.
Sagittarius is what is called a mutable fire sign – the only in the zodiac. It runs its course as the season of fall begins its transition into winter. Mutable signs indicate transformation and change. Fire in itself is so hugely transformative.
Sagittarius is that. It wants us to ask the bigger, deeper questions we can’t not face so that we can be more of who we are and reflect more of what we truly believe is real and important. The bow is in our hands and it’s time to take aim: given all you’ve learned this year, what is it that you actually want?
This moon cycle is the culmination of change we’ve been walking through for quite some time. Its essence burns away what is no longer needed and invites us to have faith: beyond the flames is a more true, more authentic, more real version of who we really are.
Mercury retrograde has been calling on us to review what led us to where we are now. Consider the last three weeks, the last three months, the last 12 years. What sticks out? What hurts? What can’t you stop thinking about? Where have you landed?
The future forward is an integration of all of it.
Here is a list of questions I’ve been diving into – I hope they guide you as you reflect on what this year has been for you – and what the year coming is bringing forth:
🔥 What do you value?
🔥 Where are you judging yourself?
🔥 What are you judging in others?
🔥 How are you being kind?
🔥 How are you being cruel?
🔥 What themes are clearly center stage in your psyche right now?
🔥 Where do you find your attention traveling?
🔥 What feels true?
🔥 What feels like bullshit?
🔥 What do you long for?
DISCLAIMER:: There is nothing like sitting in self-inquiry (unless of course what looks like self-inquiry is actually just a lashing of your inner-self). I don’t ask these questions to tear myself or anyone else apart, but to recognize where I’m putting my attention and the weight of my energy. To learn from my judgements and cruelty, to find kindness, compassion and more love – so that I can of service, because I know that is my ultimate purpose.
The critical voice can speak so softly and gently it’s hard to recognize its tone as downright awful. And sometimes you have to remember that the mean one inside most likely needs to be seen and loved and accepted.
Many of us who step onto the path of inquiry and trust have to – at one time or another – accept the shadow with the light. To experience the real growth, it’s helpful to not categorize one as better than the other. Great poets have given us endless metaphors of this – the gift of a sunset, the wisdom of a sunrise, the potency of a seeds before they burst above ground… you get the idea.
Rarely is it easy, though. Which maybe is the point. We’re continuously given shadows to slip into for contemplation and review.
So, what now?
I find the deepest healing happens when I ask real questions.
“tell me how can I can support you?” is what we need to be asking of ourselves and of each other. When I hear this question, deep within me – the one who feels so unseen – softens. Acknowledgment in itself is a balm that soothes even the coldest soul.
So, if any of these questions resonate and you decide to take them into your life – begin from a place of love and trust that the bigger, harder questions lead us to greater awareness, greater growth and more progress towards what it is we ultimately want: more intimacy, deeper love and more authentic connection. All of it and more starts with you. Support yourself. Ask the real questions and notice what comes up, even if it feels big. Aim high!
…And be fearless in your pursuit to call in support. The specific way this energy is impacting you and your life is unique. As valuable as a general horoscope can be, it is worth so much to know how specifically these tools can be used to transform your life and move forward in the direction you want.
You are worth this deep dive. Your voice is needed, valuable, necessary. Be brave and be bold.
We don’t see a new moon in a fire sign until April – the auspicious and potent Aries new moon. May the fires cast this month ignite a heat within you that burns warm through the winter months. May it carry you to create a vision you can root into the Earth as we visit the next cycle in Capricorn.
