“The flower doesn’t dream of the bee. It blossoms and the bee comes.” – The Book of Awakening
Flowers do not try to be what the bees want – it’s as they bloom that they are flooded with the love of the bees. This is such a beautiful reminder that in order to truly love, you must first and foremost cultivate love of yourself. By caring for ourselves and focusing on our own inner growth, we become exactly who we are and open ourselves up to love. As I frequently remind myself and others, this love comes in the details. We may not love all parts at all times, but there is something within us that we do care deeply for.
Identify one trait within you that makes you feel good about who you are. Maybe it’s your laugh, smile or eyes. Perhaps your ability to listen, to empathize. Maybe it’s your voice, your strength or your flexibility. You ability to balance multiple tasks, hold a conversation. Maybe it’s your ability to forgive. Take a moment and just allow this love to fill you up. Next, give thanks for this detail of goodness within you and its ability to touch others.
Our capacity for love and joy comes from knowing ourselves and opening our hearts to the experiences ahead of us. So, be who you are. Acknowledge, love, and grow the traits within you that you deeply love and more often then not, the love you seek from others will come.
