Now that it’s officially summer, the price of organic blueberries is finally becoming something I can reasonably factor into my budget and I couldn’t be more excited. Raw blueberries provide the best flavor and nutritional benefits, they are so satisfying and filled with fiber, anti-oxidants and a ton of vitamins. There’s a reason the blueberry is so popular.
Blueberries benefit pretty much every bodily system that has been studied. Not only do anti-oxidants benefit oxidative stress to the cardiovascular system, they also benefit damage to the muscular system caused by vigorous exercise and damage to the nervous, circulatory and digestive systems caused by physical, mental and emotional stress.
They also taste amazing. This smoothie bowl combines blueberries with a variety of other life-enhancing superfoods into one tasty meal. This includes spirulina, which is rich in vitamins, minerals and protein. These nutrients give it the ability to fight allergies, regulate blood pressure, and manage cholesterol. You can learn more about spirulina and its benefits from my friends at Well-Being Secrets.
Smoothie bowls provide the same ease and nutrient density of a smoothie plus the satisfaction of actually eating something with a utensil, which forces you to slow down, enjoy each bite and give your digestive system the chance to assimilate what you’re eating. The key take-away: digestion and good health is way more then getting the nutrients into your stomach – it’s incredibly important to appreciate your food with all senses. Create a beautiful meal, slow down to taste and smell each bite and enjoy the process of eating.
