True determination, real courage, come from the heart. It cannot be from the head.
We see it in Astrology, in Ayurveda, in Traditional Chinese Medicine – in almost all ancient practices and sciences, the first half of August is ruled by love and the fire element; a time for growth, expansion of energy, light and abundance.
The body is also ruled by fire – the spark of life associated with joy and enthusiasm. If you live in the Northern hemisphere, you will find these qualities abundant in the summer season. The extra sunlight provides heat and ample day time to nurture creativity and warmth. The weather invites more time to share and connect, often providing time to develop relationships and hopefully ourselves, too. This is the season to rebuild the energy lost in colder months and take action to eliminate excessive heat and stagnation in the body.
As we seek balance in Leo season, we can tap into our inherent sensitivity to express our heart and mind more fully.
This is the season to let go of thoughts, stories and patterns that hold you back from joy. Put them down, step into the flow of life and enjoy the ride! Move your body, take deep breaths and embrace your current state of health.
If there is one thing that the Cancer/Capricorn eclipses of 2019 have brought us to it is this: we must be radically honest with ourselves and each other – what we need, what we desire, what we feel within our depths. if we want to truly experience a shift in ourselves and our world, we have to get real and personal and we have to put things down or let them go.
We cant expect change if we keep doing things the same way. We can’t expect to experience liberation if we’re complaining about heartbreak and blame and victimhood. We can’t break free if we don’t have the courage to step into the freedom.
If this feels heavy or scary, it’s time to look to Leo for bravery. Bravery takes practice – it is a muscle that grows as you use it.
And it doesn’t have to be serious.
This month is all about coming back to love, a brave act if you’ve experienced the pain of heartbreak. It’s common [and easy] to live with a perception of love as one sided – that is bright and fun and flirty and shiny and butterflies and teddy bears, or it’s the opposite: full of pain and grief and angst. This polarity can be a force of its own that moves us into shame or delusion.
Yes, love is complex, but so, so simple. Love is active. Love is fierce. Love is bright. Love is harsh. Love IS FUN. We fight for love; it is the most motivating force of life.
This moon cycle, wherever you are in your relationship with love, let it motivate you to care for yourself in profound ways so that in your actions you remember and reaffirm the strength and power of it.
May this month charge your battery so you have direct and unblocked access to love that will move you through the year.
July 31: Leo New Moon – 8 degrees 37 minutes // Mercury goes direct
This is a new moon that asks us to take love seriously. Not to be serious ourselves, but to hold and play, with reverence, the force of love that animates everything. There is a call this month to return to love for the sake of love… and all that comes with it: wonder for the sake of wonder, creativity for the sake of creativity, joy for the sake of joy.
This is a Moon with a lot of !!!!!!!!!!
Take it as a fresh start. Tune into the forward momentum. It’s here to help us release previous experiences of love that have been hurtful and to move beyond the heaviness of July.
Let this new moon encourage you to take a risk. Ask for what you want, express yourself, follow what’s abundant and joyful, and you will access an open source of love.
Use the questions at the bottom of this post to explore what fills you, feeds you, and fuels you with love so that you can more easily access this necessary resource of courage when things heat up post-Leo season (foreshadowing… things get real again.)
August 8: Venus in Leo Trine Jupiter in Sagittarius // Lionsgate Peak
This is a nice day for optimism, investments, and seeking love. You may feel called to mend relationships that have been strained, with another or perhaps you can use this energy to cultivate a deeper love-bond with yourself.
Under this energy, it is easier to open to compassion, abundance and positivity. Use today to tune into your heart through meditation, yoga, and breathwork, attuning yourself to creativity and peace. How you fill yourself up today can create a ripple in the days to come.
August 11: Jupiter goes direct // Uranus moves retrograde
Mercury, which rules the mind, communication, commerce and technology moved direct as of July 31 and today is joined by Jupiter, ruler of abundance, prosperity and expansion. Jupiter retrograde gave us the opportunity to do the work to explore what it is we actually want to expand in our lives, how we’re growing personally, and to redirect our personal perception of truth and freedom and authenticity. And now it’s time to do it.
This is at the same time that Uranus, planet of awakening, electricity, kundalini energy, the nervous system (and the internet), moves retrograde (until January 10, 2020). With Uranus retrograde, expect to be awakened from the inside out – how do the messages you receive through your senses activate and bring about wise revelations and intuitive knowings within you? This is a good day to be outside in nature where you aren’t bound or held by walls.
If you haven’t realized yet, this is a summer of great and unexpected shifts. Stay on your toes this week (astro energy lasts up to 72-hours), expect the unexpected and let everything shift and sway you – it’s all meant to expand your perspective so you can better see your priorities – and what keeps you from sticking to them. This is a time that may bring your unconscious addictions to the surface (jupiter and neptune both have a say in this).
Addiction is the issue, what we’re addicted to is a side effect.
Notice today, what substances, behaviors, emotions and patterns block you from creating and thriving in joy? What blocks you from connecting, even when you want to? Approach revelations you may have with as much compassion as you can, layering shame and guilt atop a very real response to stress is not helpful. Think of this as your long term work, with so many resources and so much support.
For resources, I find a lot of value in the work of Gabor Mate and Bessel van der Kolk.
Step into the fire… New Moon in Leo inquiries
Life is an endless flow of questions. The following inquiries are meant to weave through this new moon cycle… they’re meant to be contemplated and explored through the first half of August. Many of them aren’t immediately easy to answer… and perhaps the immediate answer isn’t the deepest wellspring you can reach. Take your time. Work with these and find yourself.
How much have you loved? This could be romantic love, sure, but maybe there’s love you’ve experienced with friends or pets, or places that hold a depth you didn’t know was possible. Make a list, consider your love.
What makes you come alive? Leo season is a time that ignites. What makes you forget time and space and food and water? What we love to do can resurrect us.
What do you love doing that you aren’t doing? What has lit you up yet slipped out of your life? This is a month to reignite the fire.
What are you proud of? Think of your whole life – what have you accomplished? What are you currently doing? Again, nothing is too big and absolutely nothing is too small. This is not about comparison or boasting, but an inquiry that encourages you to savor the energy of being proud.
What can you give yourself a big high-five for?
What do you want to be remembered by? Write it down. Nothing is too big and nothing is too simple.
What kind of life makes you jealous? We all have a life we aspire to, maybe even envy. Get honest and real here – who makes you itch? What do they have that you crave? Explore your jealousy with curiosity… let it lead you home.
Who do you love the most right now? What 10 people come with you in your life boat when things get real? List them. At this point, we have hundreds, if not thousands, of friends on Facebook – but at the end of the day, you’re lucky to have 10 people you would sit in circle with to pray for and pray with.
Happy Leo, Lions and Lionesses. Be bold. Be strong. Know your worth and own it.
