It’s fall here in North America and we’re even feeling cold weather in Southern California. As the Fall into Winter Glow Cleanse comes into its final days, my body feels energized, cleansed and ready for the winter ahead. This cleanse focuses on the foods of the season as the way to transition the whole body into the coming season with greater immunity from the sickness and weight gain that can come.
Summer focused on cooling vegetables and fruits like nectarines, cucumbers and watermelon. Now that we’re in fall and winter, our bodies don’t necessarily crave those foods and the overly cold, water nature of them can create an imbalance in the system. The idea of seasonal eating asks us to look to what is growing naturally this season. For most of us, it’s the deep orange and red foods that fall to the ground or root even deeper beneath the soil. Apples, Sweet Potatoes and Pumpkins are three foods that rule this season.
The pumpkin takes center stage in this smoothie, made extra tasty with cinnamon and cardamom, which act to add extra warmth to the body. This smoothie isn’t warm, but it will make you feel that way – it’s creamy, grounding, delicious and incredibly filling.
Eating pumpkin is so good for your whole body – 1 cup gives you over 100% of your daily dose of vitamin A plus vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, copper, manganese, iron, magnesium and phosphorus. This all impacts your blood pressure, eye health, fertility, and immunity, as well as having an impact on your risk of cancer.
Blend this up for a filling, nutritious and warming meal that will fill your craving for pumpkin spice without having to leave the house.
